Food Safety

Food safety has become a major priority at every step in the food supply chain including the primary stage of production - the farm.

If you are participating in the national horticulture on-farm food safety program, we can review your current food safety procedures and help with the development of updated processes.  We can:

  • Review the food safety production manual with you
  • Perform a gap analysis of your farm and packinghouse
  • Assist you in establishing Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) on the farm
  • Consult on the records required under the program

We also provide consulting services on the development of national on-farm food safety programs by commodity organizations.  We have more than ten years of experience in assessing the technical and scientific merits of On-Farm Food Safety (OFFS) programs.

Golden Sage works with those who market their agricultural food products directly from the farm to the consumer.  We can assist you in developing and maintaining a food safety program for a farmers’ market or your operation (market garden, farm store, etc).  Food safety risks can be reduced through prevention, detection and control measures.

Some of the projects we have worked on include:
  • Development of a food safety manual for the farm direct industry in Alberta
  • Producer training
  • Training for vendors at farmers’ markets

Let us help you keep food safe - contact Golden Sage.

"The Marketing Food Safely manual is an invaluable resource to our farmers’ market managers and farm direct marketing operators. It is the only food safety manual that provides food safety best practices and examples specific to the farm direct industry, making it easier to understand and apply the principles."
